Producer and Farm
This coffee comes from Cafetalera Herbazu, a family-run farm owned by Antonio Barrantes and his six siblings in Lourdes de Naranjo, Costa Rica. Established in the early 2000s, their farm is a pioneer in microlot production, cultivating the SL28 variety typically associated with Kenya. In 2015, their washed SL28 won first place in the Cup of Excellence, cementing their reputation for exceptional quality. Today, their SL28 is one of the most sought-after coffees, and we’re thrilled to share this natural process version with you.
Cultivation and Process
The farm is situated at an altitude of 1,550 meters, where coffee trees grow in volcanic, sandy soil under the shade of Poros and Guabas. Respect for the environment is key, with no herbicides or insecticides used and a portion of the land preserved as a natural area. After careful handpicking, cherries undergo natural processing, drying over 12 days on raised beds to ensure an even, clean result.
Flavour
This SL28 coffee has a layered character. The aroma begins with delicate floral notes of white flowers and nectarine, followed by a herbal complexity similar to black tea. Tropical sweetness comes through with hints of lychee and nectarine, balanced by a lively blue-grape-like acidity.
