Yirgacheffe is literally translated as the 'Land of Many Springs'. It has the ideal topography and elevation in combination with plenty of water sources to produce and process exceptional coffee. Besides, it is considered to be the birthplace of coffee.
The washing station Chelchele is located in Gedeb; a micro-region in Yirgacheffe. It is owned by METAD, which is a family run business. METAD works with local small-scale farmers who supply their best cherries. The washing station is located at an altitude of 2000m. Because of the high altitude, the coffee dries slowly and suffers less damage from insects. The result is a high-quality coffee with a more intense flavour profile. Furthermore, METAD is going beyond just coffee production. He invests heavily in initiatives that are beneficial for the community and environment.
Once again, we fell in love with this amazing coffee! It’s packed full of the classic flavours you can expect from a washed Ethiopian coffee. It's floral and sweet with citrus and peach-like flavour notes.
