Andrea Domingo is a third-generation coffee farmer from Petatán, Huehuetenango. Her grandfather was the first to introduce coffee cultivation on their family farm, which previously focused on corn and beans. When her husband left to find work, Andrea took over the running of the farm. Despite the challenges of being a female farmer in a traditionally male-dominated field, she has persevered with the support of her family and workers.
The farm is named Buena Vista, after a local spot with stunning views of the Huehuetenango mountains.
Andrea uses the traditional washed process. After harvesting, the cherries are depulped, fermented, and washed to ensure a clean, bright flavour. The beans are then dried on raised beds in the cool, high-altitude air of Huehuetenango, which allows for slow, even drying. This careful method helps to preserve the beans' complex flavour profile and high quality.
Buena Vista coffee offers a vibrant, sweet cup with notes of raisins, blackberries and black tea, complemented by a subtle floral aroma. The crisp acidity and silky body come from the washed process and the unique terroir of Huehuetenango. Each sip reflects Andrea's dedication and her family's heritage.
